WHY DO WE NEED MOISTURE MEASUREMENT?
  • Wet cast – measurement in sand corrects both sand weight and water
  • Dry cast – measurement in sand corrects sand weight only – additional measurement required in mixer
  •   Benefits in product:
  • Consistent slump
  • Consistent workability
  • Consistent color/ texture
  • Consistent maximum strength
  • Less wasted batches
  • Less testing labor
3
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
  • Dual detector measures reflection distance
  • Peak detection ignores voids when averaging
  • 3 averaging methods – fast, slow, sampling

  • THE 3 ESSENTIALS FOR ACCURACY:
  • Measurement within flow region
  • “Sampling” creates average during flow period
  • Compaction of material gives constant density

4
COMPARISON WITH OTHERS
  • Costs 30% less than Hydronix Hydro Probe-II while equal in performance
  • Linear output – separate box not required
  • Does not require separate power supply
  • One-hole installation is simpler than any other
  • Long enough for all hoppers – no adaptor needed
  • Empty bin detection prevents spoiled batches
  • The only sensor with 5 year wear guarantee
  • Computer software gives 1-step calibration
  • Fast service from Canada, instant engineering help
  • Over 1000 installed, long track record

RADARTRON APPLICATIONS
  • All types concrete plant (“star” plant shown)
  • Conveyors and chutes
  • Coal and carbon
  • Mining, metal ores
  • Grain, flour, meal
  • Foundry sands
  • Industrial clays
  • Limitations are with chemically combined water, oil mixtures
6
INSTALLATION TIPS
  • Must be in moving material – not weigh hopper
  • Opposite wall from vibrator, away from heat
  • Vibration and cooling kits available
  • In bin or chute that gives compacted material
  • Conveyors require deep bed of material
  • New materials must be tested and sensor adjusted
  • Not recommended for particles over 0.5 inch
  • Only valid test is to use on-line, observe and measure results, compare performance
7
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
  • New sensor will be unveiled at 2004 shows
  • Density independent, giving higher accuracy
  • Will handle many materials
  • Analog and digital outputs
  • Remote calibration
  • Rugged surface-mount microstrip circuit
8
SALES CHANNELS
  • As part of batching control systems for concrete and asphalt, to end users. One company has purchased 24 RadarTrons over 5 years
  • As add-ons to existing and new plants
  • Through batching control suppliers
  • Through plant builders for concrete and asphalt and other OEMs
  • Manufacturers of dryers for grain, chemicals, clays and mined products
  • Moulding and extruding machinery

COMING IN 2005
  • VERSION FOR SUGAR REFINING
  • Installs in evaporation vessels.  Capable of operating at up to 200 F (95 C) temperature
  • Also withstands partial vacuum
  • Food quality materials
  • Measures from 60 to over 95 degrees brix with 4 - 20 mA or 0 – 10 volt output
