Greyline MFS100 Microphone Flow Switch

Standard features include:

MICROPHONE FLOW SWITCH SPECIFICATIONS

SCOPE: This specification covers a non-intrusive, acoustic flow switch as manufactured by Greyline Instruments Inc., Massena New York / Long Sault, Ontario. The instrument shall provide for flow/no flow control of liquids or solids.

A. PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS

  1. The flow switch shall operate with a strap-on flow sensor mounted externally on any sound conductive pipe material including carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, copper, FRP, PVC, ABS, or cement lined pipe.
  2. The Flow Switch shall react to flow noise generated by the movement of a fluid or solid. ON/OFF control set-points shall be adjustable by means of a Sensitivity pot on the face of the instrument.

B. FLOW SENSOR/MICROPHONE

  1. The flow sensor shall incorporate an acoustic microphone in a stainless steel housing. It shall be installed on the outside of a pipe without interrupting flow.
  2. The flow sensor shall be capable of continuous operation at temperatures from -5° to 140°F (-20° to 60°C).
  3. The flow Sensor shall mount on any pipe size from 1/2" to 180" (15mm to 4.5 m), or any pneumatic conveying system or chute.
  4. Shall include 5 ft (1.5m) shielded coaxial cable with waterproof, potted bond to the Sensor head.
  5. Shall be capable of extending sensor cable up to 20 ft (6 m), without adjustment, and with no reduction in performance or signal strength.

C. ELECTRONICS/CONTROLLER

  1. Shall include one 5 ampere SPDT control relay with adjustable ON/OFF set point.
  2. Shall be housed in a wall-mount watertight, dust tight NEMA4X (IP66) fiberglass enclosure with a gasket shatter proof window.
  3. The controller shall include dial adjustment for Sensitivity/Flow set-point.
  4. The controller shall include a LED light to indicate relay status, and a separate LED to indicate power ON.
  5. The flow switch electronics/controller shall operate at temperatures from -10° to 140°F (-23° to 60°C).
  6. Power input and Relay connections shall be by screw-type terminals inside the electronics enclosure.
  7. The electronics shall include lightning/surge suppression on the AC power input, and sensor.

D. OPTIONAL FEATURES FOR INSERTION IN SPECIFICATION AS REQUIRED

  1. Have a power input of 220-240VAC 50/60Hz.
  2. Have a power input of 24VDC.
  3. Have 20 ft. (6 m) continuous shielded coaxial sensor cable with waterproof, potted bond to the Sensor head.
  4. Include manufacturer's stainless steel Sensor Mounting Clamp for specified pipe size.
  5. Have a thermostatically controlled enclosure heater suitable to sustain the electronics without damage to -40°F (-40°C).

E. MANUFACTURER

The flow switch shall be a Model MFS100 Microphone Flow Switch as manufactured by Greyline Instruments Inc., and warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for one year.
